The Oratory Preparatory School is a co-educational Catholic boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 13, situated in an idyllic rural countryside setting on the borders of Oxfordshire and Berkshire, 20 mins from Reading and one hour from London.

Within our school community, we aim to provide a full and rewarding education by cultivating wide interests in a happy and relaxed atmosphere. Whilst academic success is at the heart of what we are trying to achieve through the basic curriculum at the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum, an Oratory Prep education is enriched with a wide variety of Activities and Forest School through to Year 8 where pupils can make the most of our grounds to engage with outdoor learning in our extensive woodlands, lawns, adventure playground and beyond.

Boarding is an integral part of school life for children at the Oratory Prep School. We provide full, weekly and flexi-boarding to children in Year 3 upwards and interestingly, now more than ever before, there is growing popularity for flexi-boarding and an increasing number of children from Years 5-8 regularly board on a flexible basis during the week.

Boarders enjoy a full and varied calendar of events and activities throughout the year. On Saturdays the older children take part in our Saturday Enrichment Programme, followed by Sports matches and the younger children take part in an organised activity. Evenings are time for spending with friends.

Our Boarding Housemaster, Mr Pete Thornett, lives onsite with his wife and two small children and is keen for there to be a real family feel within the boarding house. He is a firm believer that boarding is something that all children of prep age should sample at one time or another:

The boarding house at the OPS is inclusive in all ways and we welcome new members with kindness, empathy and a good dose of fun.

Sport at the Oratory Prep

Our extensive range of girls, boys and mixed sports enables children to discover their passion and pursue it to the best of their ability. Sport is also character forming where each child gives and gains something that will benefit them in later life.

Our boys achieve great success at county, district and national levels in Rugby, Football, Rugby 7s and Cricket. Girls excel, particularly in Hockey, Netball and Cricket. Our children also compete to a high level in Triathlon, Cross Country, Tennis, Athletics and Swimming with early morning swim squad in our 25 metre pool.

Facilities

Across our 65 acres of grounds there are numerous rugby pitches, mini pitches, football pitches, cricket pitches and practice nets. There are also tennis courts, and a full sized astroturf. These enviable outdoor sports facilities plus and indoor sports hall and 25 metre pool ensures that Sport is a big part of life at the Oratory Prep School with a sport and skill level for all and competitive matches against visiting schools are a regular fixture in the calendar.

Within the Prep school we are blessed with two well equipped labs, a 300 seater theatre with state of the art sound and lighting systems, a purpose built music department with a suite of practice rooms, a large rehearsal room and a music tech room. Our art room is spacious, bright and well resourced, including a kiln and print making press.
